Will Governor Josh Stein Sign The Property Tax Moratorium?

NC House Republican passed yesterday the measure to prohibit property tax revaluations from becoming effective this year. That is a cause for celebration.

It now heads to the governor’s desk. He has ten days to make a decision. It appears that a veto would be overridden.

But here is the big question. Does he sign it thereby alienating the Guilford County socialists who avidly advocated against this legislation? Does he allow it to become law without taking action?

Of course, the obvious option is that he could veto it. But if he does, or if he passively allows it to become law, he would effectively be raising property taxes massively for many North Carolina citizens. When he runs for re-election, his Republican opponent would be able to use that against him. (Of course, that presumes the Republicans might nominate someone smart enough to do so– and that is a big presumption.)

Josh Stein faces a dilemma. Does he go with his socialist inclinations, or does he protect his re-election?

Stay tuned.
