Explaining That Socialist Utopias Don’t Satisfy

Even when government takes care of all our needs and makes us “happy”, there is still a yearning to be free and to feel of consequence. This is a great illustration of why the tech overlords’ Universal Basic Income proposal is bound to fail. (And there is also our sin nature, of course, that explains socialist agitation even though a massive welfare state is provided):

  1. At the heart of every call for Universal Basic Income ( UBI ) lurks the lump-of-labor fallacy—the mistaken belief an economy contains only a fixed amount of work to be done.

Beyond the fiscal objections lies a deeper problem. UBI would corrode the very virtues we need most, trapping millions in dependency and purposelessness.

The deeper happiness of earned success is a future worth building, worth defending, and worth the struggle. And it is a future no machine can deliver.
