  1. I love a happy ending. The colonists didn’t retreat and run but instead showed the British how to fight. Yes, Saratoga was a great victory

      1. Triad, Guilford Courthouse was a Pyrrhic victory (at best) for Cornwallis. I’m not sure it is applicable to Saratoga in any way. It was a fabulous boost to the American cause, fully worth the cost.

Benedict Arnold was really rather important to the success of Saratoga beyond the mention by the Prager historian. In the run-up, he spectacularly prevented a detachment from the west re-enforcing Burgoyne. He probably was under-appreciated & treated unjustly by the American politicians, and then he married a Tory–never underestimate the power of a woman.

        1. It’s interesting, J. Sobran, that Arnold’s name became synonymous with traitor, even to the extent that many folks don’t know about his real military prowess and the major contributions he made prior to his defection. It’s pretty amazing what these guys achieved.
