Guilford Debt Bomb and Property Taxes

Nicky Smith had a good Letter to the Editor calling attention to Guilford County’s massively expanding debt that leads our esteemed county commissioners to feel ever-increasing property taxes are necessary.

Scott Yost at the Rhino Times reports about the commissioners’ deliberations regarding how severely they are going to stick it to us in the wake of the property revaluations that took place.

George Hartzman illustrates that some people had their properties revalued upwards of 70-100 percent; and these often tended to be lower priced homes owned by folks who cannot afford massive tax increases.

But there is at least somewhat of a light in the darkness. The NC Senate Finance Committee will be considering today a bill filed by Phil Berger placing a one-year moratorium on property tax increases until the General Assembly can decide what to do about the situation. This is, after all, a statewide problem.

But the people in Guilford County need to revisit the kinds of people they elect to the Board of County Commissioners. When you elect socialists, they will try to grab everything you have.
