I mostly agree with the young man in the video below. And I truly hope that AI will not displace large numbers of people economically.
But there is another reason that Universal Basic Income is a bad idea. Work is a part of the natural order and design that God laid down for us. It is one of the consequences that arose from the fall of man when Adam committed the first sin. If we eliminate work, other problems will ensue:
That was a sound , fundamental, lecture. I trust that UBI will never see the light of day in the USA. The slackers in our country are responsible for various harms. Work requirements are essential to any welfare program that takes money from one class to be redistributed to an other class.
It appears the oligarchs are lining up in favor of UBI, Fred. The combination of AI and robotics risks job losses, but we can’t predict the future. Regardless, as you suggest, eliminating work requirements is a bad idea.
