… and the blithe commission of a slander:
On Thursday’s broadcast of “CNN News Central,” Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones (D) responded to a question on the timing issues with the state’s redistricting measure by saying the judge who ruled against the measure is an activist.
Co-host Brianna Keilar asked, “[T]he judge here also said this effort violates the timing clause of Virginia’s Constitution, because voters didn’t have the 90 days between the General Assembly passing the constitutional amendment allowing this redistricting and the voters voting on it. It was signed in early February by the governor. It was passed in January. It went [in] early March for early votes, it was presented to voters. Do you disagree with that timing argument?”
Jones responded, “Well, look, again, I think that one judge, an activist judge who was engaged in this earlier –.”
The state of Virginia often had Democratic leadership in the past, but it tended to be moderate/ conservative Democratic leadership. Something changed over the last twenty years or so. Now the Democrats in Virginia have gutter-level progressive/ socialists leading the state.
The premise that the state Attorney General could openly slander a judge who issues a rightful ruling is profoundly awful. That judge really ought to take legal action against Jay Jones for defamation.
The judge in question is Jack Hurley who is from southwest Virginia— a Republican area.
Jay Jones is the same person who was revealed to have desired the shooting of a political opponent. He was elected in spite of that.
It is pretty sad to witness what has happened to the state of Virginia.
I have no idea whether the state Supreme Court will uphold Hurley’s ruling. On the merits, it should. However, my understanding is that the socialists controlling the state legislature determine whether these justices are re-appointed to the high court. If they want to keep their jobs, they will feel pressured to overturn.
Politics in Virginia has evolved into a nightmare. Hopefully forces of liberty will win in the long run.
The Northern Virginia problem, Fred, is going to be tough to overcome. That, together with the radicalization of the Democratic Party, is a bad omen for the state.
But the election of people with such brazenly poor character– Jones, Spanberger, Northam, etc.– is a real issue.
Kaine and Warner are also pretty awful, by the way, each for their own reasons.
