A watchdog group sued to force the release of information from UNC regarding Ralph Baric’s Covid-related research. Carolina Journal reports that the courts ruled against the release because of a law passed by Raleigh Republicans a dozen years ago.
Republican state legislators ought to call UNC administrators and Baric into oversight hearings. It is not merely that state taxpayers ought to be able to know what their tax dollars are funding. When there is nefarious, harmful activity taking place, it is legislators’ duty to respond.
Somehow the ruling class always rules that the ruling class can take our money from us and not tell us what they did with it.
Even then, J. Sobran, the Raleigh Republicans are politically tone deaf to refrain from making this an issue. They must lack confidence they are able to do so.

The other alternative explanation is that they don’t want to unleash this thing because it might have implications for the state. But that seems highly insufficient.
