Guilford County Debt

Scott Yost had a couple of articles at the Rhino Times website last week that discussed Guilford County’s bond debt. This impacts every taxpayer because we have to pay off those bonds that are borrowed. There is a certain amount of risk associated with carrying so much debt also.

While we are required to pay down this debt, the report is that there are plans to continue amassing more debt for various trinkets.

In addition, Skip Alston has floated the premise that the next school bond will be $550 million. This would be the latest in a prolonged series of large school bonds over the last couple of decades. The bond money has largely been frittered away on excessive projects.

It never ends.

It would be a blessing to have local leaders who live within their means, and who act as stewards of the public trust. We don’t even remotely have that, and there are no prospects it will materialize.
