The socialists do best if they are able to camouflage who they are with a pleasing countenance and a non-threatening, agreeable manner of speech. Think of folks like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama– and here in our own state, John Edwards and Roy Cooper.
Zohran Mamdani is this kind of candidate. While he is an intensely committed socialist, he offers the packaging that tends to get them elected. But if he wins, it will also be because of the internationals voting in NYC– Asians, Muslims, etc.
Unless circumstances change rapidly, it appears he will prevail. I wonder if you will then see certain wealthy individuals and employers leave the city very quickly.
Another issue is whether he would be positioned to run for higher office in the future.
The mayoralty in New York City is a powerful position. He has real executive authority. Mamdani can do a fair amount of damage if he were elected:
Let;s pray For Mandami’s opponent’s.
I find it difficult to pray for Andrew Cuomo’s success, Fred; but I certainly will be praying for the people of the New York metro area.
Cuomo would certainly be somewhat of an improvement over Mamdani; and would have a chance especially if Sliwa were to exit the race. Sliwa, of course, has no path to victory.
