The city of Charlotte is having a bad run.
The consequences of progressive/ socialist local government and culture can be severe. Electing that type of government– and adopting that kind of culture– effectively begs for horrors to be unleashed.
Addendum: Carolina Journal reports that Charlotte’s Fraternal Order of Police is requesting assistance from the Trump administration. Notwithstanding the constitutional questions involved, this is an indicator of how bad things have become in Charlotte.
My parents moved to Charlotte in 1955. I was discharged from the Navy in 1956 and stayed with them until I entered UNC Chapel Hill. I got to know Charlotte pretty well. In those days it was a relatively nice place to live.
In 1983 I was transferred to Greensboro and Charlotte was part of my territory. I found it had dramatically changed from my first experience there. But I was still a fairly good place to be.
In 1990 I retired and began a second career once again my territory included Charlotte . By this time the signs of crime, civic decay and heightened personal safety were obvious.
It has been been 35 years since I was last in the Queen City and clearly the police there have more than they can say grace over,
The murder of Iryna Zarutska, on public transit in Charlotte in late August and school bus driver accused of rape are disturbing signs that underscore the set of circumstances the leaders there now find themselves. I trust that they will find the courage to take the right steps moving forward.
As in Greensboro, Fred, the problem is poor political support of the police. I have a friend who retired from that department in Charlotte several years ago and he talked about it before he retired. I remember visiting there during the 1980’s and it was still a pretty nice city.
