NC Poverty Pimp Not In Poverty

It has not been uncommon for various parties to refer to religious leaders in the black community who form organizations to agitate for more socialism as “poverty pimps”. We have seen many of these over the years– Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc.– enrich themselves as they inflame their supporters.

In North Carolina, we have the Rev. William Barber, who led his organization in the past to descend on the state capitol and create huge disturbances to disrupt the Republican-led General Assembly.

We learned within the last week that Barber and his wife are divorcing. His wife is making certain allegations.

But there are interesting bits of information in the write-up:

Rebecca Barber alleges in court filings that in addition to the $225,000 salary William Barber has been earning from Repairers of the Breach, the group has also been funnelling him $7,000 each month “under the guise of alimony or financial support”…

William Barber, who has led the organization for years, collected at least $224,570 from the organization in 2023, according to tax records. The organization reported about $5.2 million in revenue that year.

Now, in the state of North Carolina, $225,000 per year is not a poverty wage. It is not even a working class wage. It is decidedly upper middle class.

And yet Barber pranced around as if he were exuding virtue because he was representing the poor. And of course, the corrupt media played along.

How is it that we did not know this until now?
