There are a couple of bills that have been filed in the General Assembly of interest.
The first, sponsored by Republicans, makes it less likely parents will be shut out of their kids’ medical treatment. Current North Carolina law makes it impermissible for parents to know about or control their kids’ medical treatment under various circumstances. This bill tightens up that situation. This is long overdue.
While it will likely be an emotional issue and hotly debated, I think the bill ought to pass. It is nefarious to keep parents out of their kids’ medical treatment.
The second bill– sponsored by the socialists– grants in-state tuition at the state’s public colleges and universities to illegal immigrants. This is an issue that was also floated years ago.
To call this an abject injustice would be an understatement. Legal North Carolina citizens would pay the same amount as illegals. Legal citizens of bordering states like Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee would pay MORE than illegals, even though they are US citizens.
The first bill needs to pass. The second ought not get past committee.
Agreed —- Yes on bill 1——-No on bill 2
The Parental Right/ Consent issue became much bigger with Covid, Fred. Parents rightfully don’t trust the health care industry or the school systems.
