This is a bipartisan effort The primary sponsors include two Republicans and two socialists.
Among the sponsors are two from the Triad. These include Greensboro’s own Pricey Harrison (although some have questioned in the past to what extent she actually lives in Greensboro.)
The other from the Triad is Republican Donny Lambeth from Forsyth County– the former hospital administrator who represents the state’s hospital systems in the General Assembly. Recall he was a big cheerleader for Medicaid expansion. His sponsorship of this bill raises the question as to whether Mr. Lambeth believes assisted suicide might be a reimbursable procedure for the state’s hospital systems.
Of course, this bill is morally and ethically reprehensible. It blatantly violates pro-life principles. And using physicians to help patients kill themselves is horrific.
Some might say this is just a study bill. It does not enact legalized assisted suicide– at least, not yet. It just studies it.
But wisdom requires we don’t even go there. Don’t even take the first step.
Of course it is, TC. I don’t think it has a snowball’s chance in hell.
You’re probably right, Fred. Much seems to depend on whether the leadership allows a vote.
