With Nancy Hoffmann’s planned retirement, the Greensboro City Council’s district 4 seat will be open. This is an important seat because it is one of the places where a more conservative candidate could possibly win.
Nicky Smith has already announced he will run, but he was subject to a savage attack at the hands of incumbent council members when he sought Yvonne Johnson’s at large seat. We had discussed this here previously.
That is an indication they don’t consider him to be part of the crowd– the machine.
Now, another candidate has emerged. His name is Adam Marshall– an attorney who has served on various city boards and commissions. Given the Rhino Times’ description, I expect he will lean left; and suspect he might become part of the Melderec con Simkins machine serving east Greensboro’s political establishment and development-related interests. He will have every opportunity to prove us wrong, but the Rhino article has various footprints.
I would like to see Mary Rakestraw vie for the District 4 seat.
That would be interesting, Fred. She is a proven conservative, and has shown the ability to win elections.
