I need help connecting this video to Christian Nationalism, as I understand it, isn’t CN the belief that our nation must recognize, practice and promote Christian values (which I agree with) while not allowing the freedom of non-followers of Jesus to exercise their particular faith or the absence there of freely? I do understand we fought a war for our independence from a monarchy that wanted to dictate to the colonies everything from taxes to an approved religion so I’m a little concerned with the idea of what message this sends to probably a good portion of America. I could use a little help here.
Jan, I don’t think CN seeks to prevent the freedom of non-followers to exercise their faith or the absence thereof. But it does promote the idea that the nation should recognize and promote Christian values to the extent that it influences how the state (or the nation) makes decisions about certain political questions. The pastor in this video does not actively promote that perspective. He was merely on the doorstep. But the implications of what he advocates suggests we ought to do these things as a society.
