For Politically Silent Pastors and Churches

Mark DeVine, a professor with the theological seminary at Samford University, discusses the fact that our nation has been sliding into totalitarianism.

He then points out that many pastors and churches have chosen to be apolitical or neutral politically.

While Christians have no consistently faithful friends in the major parties, DeVine makes the case that our very religious liberty is at stake. If we continue our slide further into Marxist totalitarianism, the socialists will take that away.

DeVine concludes with the following illustration regarding such politically impotent pastors:

(T)hey may soon find themselves on the front steps of their churches as they watch the government lock the doors and throw away the key.

When that moment arrives, they cannot say, “We didn’t know this was coming,” but only, “We were warned, but we didn’t listen.”

Or worse: “We voted for this.”

  1. For all the reasons DeVine details thousands of church properties worth billions of dollars are being sold or repurposed each year. Nothing can stop the currents of change.

Pastors should stand athwart history and be yelling ‘Stop!’.

    1. Fred, unfortunately, very few are willing to do this. The excuse given is that it hurts evangelism. But the church has important purposes in addition to evangelism. And some don’t want to endure pushback from lefty congregants.

  2. Pastors were overwhelmingly pusillanimous during the Plandemic, when you could loot, burn, & steal for BLM, and go to the weed dispensary, but you could not go to church for your mother’s funeral. Or even for the desperately needed companionship of other believers.
