Folwell: Hospitals Engage in Extreme Price Markups, Lack Transparent Pricing

State Treasurer Dale Folwell has done it again.

He released a report this week that finds the following regarding our state’s corrupt hospital systems:

  • They engage in applying extreme markups on prices to insurance companies and to the general public;
  • They lack transparency and accountability with regard to pricing;
  • Their prices vary widely; and
  • Hospitals have sued over 7,000 patients statewide to collect medical debt, charging interest on debt and placing liens on their families’ homes.

The advertising images they cultivate convey that they are caring and compassionate. But they are ruthless with respect to price-gouging, and also with respect to taking the assets of poor working families.

    1. Fred, Giuliani said the other day that we have fascism in the United States– referring to government controlling corporations to the extent that the two are working as one unit. The hospital industry is perhaps the best example. They are allowed to do these things because government allows them to do so.
