Having watched the GOP over the last 28 years or so, the situation for voters is quite comparable to Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football:

If you listen closely, he admits a couple of times that Republicans lost because they didn’t keep the promises they made. Exactly. But as Triad notes, Lucy and the football are the perfect analogy. The Republican party has had remarkably little integrity since Reagan left [the Gingrich Congress the one exception].
The reason I said 28 years, J. Sobran, is because it takes us back to the period immediately following Gingrich. It’s been a mess ever since.
I too have observed the Republican party for decades. There have been highs and lows.
They have had the problem of RINOs and a scandal or two but I still believe they are the best medicine for this country.
They gave us the greatest President in the history of this country.—- Ronald Wilson Reagan..
What a great, and decent man. He made America believe in itself again, stood up for traditional values even though this was the one area that I wish more was done with. Brought down the evil empire, got the economy rolling again…. Had the power to make even his enemies like him, and even support him. I don’t think there are very many leaders who were able to achieve what he did, or had the positive attributes that he did. With all the pretenders these days it should make us long for this great man. There sure hasn’t been another quite like him.
I loved Reagan also, Fred. I agree, he was the best we had in our lifetime. There are aspects of his legacy to critique, certainly– and the folks at Chronicles do with some regularity.
I agree with you both that Reagan was the best president of our lifetime. He made 3 major promises: Cut taxes, strengthen the military, and cut spending. He kept 2 of them. But on so many levels, he was a good person and presided over the country we love lovingly and with some regard for the Constitution (compared to other modern presidents).
