The News and Record and the Rhino Times have attempted to explain how the sales tax increase passed.
The News and Record says it is because the county was permitted to explain on the ballot how the money would be spent. There was a list of places the money would go.
The Rhino Times offered this same explanation, but also added the following:
Alston said firefighters, teachers and others who stood to benefit were making the case even without the billboards and advertising that had marked earlier efforts.
“It was an underground campaign that did it,” he said.
I think the Rhino probably got it more right than the News and Record did. But the implications are that the socialist county commissioners will fritter away the money. I doubt it will restrain property tax increases even one iota.
TC, YOU ARE CORRECT AS HOW THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WILL WASTE THE NEW FOUND REVENUE WITH THEIR PROFLIGATE SPENDING.
THE VOTERS HAD MULTIPLE REASONS TO REJECT THE SALES TAX INCREASE. WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH THESE PEOPLE ?
Fred, I think in Greensboro and Guilford County, there are large numbers of people who are told how to vote by the Simkins PAC and other lefty organizations. Perhaps the firefighters and teachers have ways of reaching large numbers of lefty voters, as the article suggests. I doubt voters made the decision in the polling place after reading the ballot language.
