Various journalists and organizations have been busy digging up various aspects of former Governor Roy Cooper’s political history. Here are a few examples:
- Even though he has been a huge green energy proponent and critical of fossil fuels, he has taken huge amounts of money from Duke Energy, has indirectly owned Duke Energy stock, and had hired one of Duke Energy’s lobbyists to work within his administration;
- He has taken large amounts of donations from health insurance companies and has indirectly owned their stock; and
- When he served as a state legislator many years ago, he voted to increase many taxes including sales tax, gas tax, taxes on pensions and survivor benefits, and tax on health insurance premiums.
And here is one that is particularly egregious. He ran the DMV when he was governor in a manner that allowed illegal aliens to get drivers’ licenses in the state. And when Republicans tried to correct it, he vetoed the bill.
The people of the state of NC have no idea who this man is.
