There certainly are other issues with AI and data centers. However, this would eliminate the concerns over escalating utility rates.

On first blush it appears that Duke is doing a good thing. I hope this plan works out in the long run.
I do also, Fred. It would be great if they can keep this promise.

That’s true of regular customers like us as well. That’s saying nothing. Duke wants the growth. Their vested interest makes their statement suspect. It reminds me of municipalities promising efficiency of scale from annexing more territory, invariably followed by higher taxes. The bigger the city, the higher the taxes–even though it should be the reverse from economy of scale.
AI/data centers are like fire. Useful and necessary, but they can burn you. They must be treated with the same care & attention & fear as fire.
Good, prudent observations, J. Sobran. Interestingly, there has been an attempt by Stein and Jackson to get Duke Energy to commit more firmly to the representations that have been made.
We need to make sure these AI data centers are not an independent cause of utilities having to increase rates to ordinary folks.
