Fraud Online

I am a bit skeptical about the wisdom of allowing folks to apply for governmental benefits online. It seems like an invitation to fraud.

Remember that, several years ago, North Carolina Republicans proudly announced they had helped create a “one stop shop” for charity benefits in the county social services system. When you make it easier to apply for benefits, you make it easier to commit fraud. There is much to be said for requiring in-person application for each program with appropriate ID verification:

  1. Fraud is rampant everywhere. I would hope that in person application for welfare benefits would cut down fraud numbers.

    Closely monitoring these programs is essential to preventing fraud.

    1. I agree, Fred. How many of our leaders are going to be inclined to do that? That, unfortunately, is the problem. The socialists want ever-increasing numbers on these programs, so they are going to be highly unlikely to monitor them properly.
