North Carolina got some national attention once again when it was revealed that Medicaid billings for autism in our state increased 47,000 percent in a period of five years. This was discovered by GOP State Auditor Dave Boliek. Obviously, there are concerns this might represent fraudulent billing.
In fact, Boliek has developed a fairly impressive record since he took office. There has been a string of initiatives and revelations intended to keep a close watch on the public purse.
This is to be contrasted with the new State Treasurer, Brad Briner. The Daily Haymaker has an article about this gentleman. Among other things, Briner has dismantled part of what the former GOP state treasurer, Dale Folwell, had assiduously constructed. Recall that Folwell bucked some privileged institutions such as the hospital systems and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.
Briner claims to have improved the investment of the assets in the state retirement system; and that would be a very good thing.
But it appears Boliek is more of a winner for the GOP, by leaps and bounds.
I agree. North Carolina needs more GOP representatives on the Council of State.
They could use a governor and Attorney General, Fred. Very hard for them to attain…
