Does not Moore know that the states had established religions during the early days of the American republic; and that religious liberty was almost exclusively conceived as tolerance among Christian denominations?
So Russell Moore was just lying through his teeth here, and so many Southern Baptists clapped along with him.

Turns out the "answer to Islam" actually is government power – see what Broken Arrow, Oklahoma just did in rejecting the construction of a new "Islamic Center." pic.twitter.com/jjkdynEz8z
A few Sidewinders might emphasize that message.
Texas apparently has a big problem developing, Fred.
What a mess we have brought upon ourselves!
I am in sympathy with his thrust. We do want religious freedom and freedom of thought. However, we should not be admitting immigrants to this country whose culture is the antithesis of the American culture of tolerance and freedom. Islam preaches violence and intolerance and abuse of individual freedom, especially for women but for men as well.
It makes no more sense to admit a strict Muslim into the US than it would to admit a committed Communist who is sworn to the destruction of our country and culture.
That’s right, J. Sobran. By the way, admission of Zohran Mamdani’s family to the United States was a double-header. We got elements of both.
The question becomes what is a “strict Muslim”. Given the fact that Islam allows deception toward those outside the faith, we can’t trust what their representations might be.
