Over the last couple of days, there have been a couple of awful articles in the Greensboro News and Record commemorating the events of January 6, 2001. One was an op-ed piece; and the other was a report covering a small, local socialist demonstration on the matter.
Both pieces were awful because they did not present both sides and were partisan in nature. We have spoken many times at this blog about media bias. These are textbook examples.
But there is another dimension. Both articles were profoundly ignorant. They were completely oblivious to the avalanche of reporting that has taken place on the national level regarding January 6 and all the problems with the official rendering of events.
The News and Record and the Winston-Salem Journal ought to stop reporting on national matters because they are not competent to do so. They ought to focus on local and state matters. Perhaps by virtue of being able to concentrate on regional matters, and liberate themselves from reporting national issues, they will be better able to do a good job. Competence is very important; and they need to “get it right”.
But then there is another wrinkle. One of the local TV news programs yesterday reported that Rep. Alan Branson– a Republican!– commented on January 6 and was critical of the protests that had taken place. Check this out: (WFMY’s article is also pretty bad, by the way!)
Branson called January 6 “horrific” no matter your party affiliation. He said he believes those involved should face consequences.
This is, of course, malarkey. He was buying favor with the press by following the official line despite all of the evidence to the contrary over the last five years.
We really ought to require a higher standard from the corrupt media and from establishment Republicans.
J6 was a masterfully manipulated hoax, timed precisely to prevent the Senate speakers from highlighting with good visibility all the irregularities in the stolen 2020 election, where the figurehead Biden won with 47 million mail-in ballots (while remaining in his basement). Pelosi and the FBI were clearly in on it. But many others too… perhaps why Republicans like Mike Johnson lied and didn’t release the video footage as he promised. Something in those videos must be kept secret from the American people.
The media seemed pre-primed to conjure the 1st ever unarmed insurrection in history, accomplished by retired vets and grandmothers by strolling around and taking selfies.
J. Sobran, obviously I agree. The sheer weight of the facts and the reporting over a period of 5 years is impervious to the stupid News and Record that continues to fabricate. One one level, it is astonishing, but on another, it is… typical.
And now we learn this week that the Capitol Police officer who murdered Ashli Babbit has a wife who has been receiving huge amounts of money– nearly $200 million– from the federal government for a daycare program:
