The Reviling Wife And The Church

This is a pretty interesting video covering territory I had not seen explored previously. These two men discuss the problem of marital conflicts erupting, and then being mediated by a pastor or counselor. They specifically note the situation when wives absolutely revile their husbands, and how pastors predictably take the side of the wife over the husband.

They discuss further how pastors are insufficiently trained and prepared to deal with these situations. They indicate pastors are sometimes afraid of women. They discuss the issues of feminism, “complementarianism” and the current conceptions of “abuse”; and how these each contribute to the overall problem.

This is worth a look and listen:

  1. Could it be that pastors are looking for answers outside of God’s Word? Disclaimer, I did not watch the video.

I will say, however, that it seems to me that the current model of raising leadership within the churches has taken on more of a business model (CEO) approach rather than a biblical (Shepherding) model. If 2 Timothy 3:16-17 is accurate (which I believe it is), then there is no reason our leaders shouldn’t be equipped. Perhaps “the calling” may need to be questioned, with gentleness, of course.

    1. Tommy, the search for answers outside of God’s Word is one of the things discussed heavily in the video, so you nailed that part. The speakers in the video– especially the author– essentially claims there is a bias toward the woman’s point of view when the woman has sinful attitudes.

The problem of pastors being ill-equipped to counsel is described as being longstanding and has been the case for a long time, across various denominations. The seminaries simply don’t train it well. The men in the video do not talk about the CEO approach but they do very much want biblical shepherding.
