Lefty NC Justices Fear No Accountability

There was an interesting article in the North State Journal about an online dispute between two NC Supreme Court Justices– Phil Berger, Jr. and Anita Earls.

Earls is a socialist justice who recently took to social media to criticize ICE operations in the state of North Carolina, labeling the activities a violation of constitutional rights.

Berger, Jr. admirably responded with a statement of his own:

“What undermines public confidence is not lawful enforcement activity, but the growing trend of judges asserting their personal opinions and positions without facts, without parties before them, and without the neutrality their office demands,” Berger wrote. “Judges are not political commentators, and we are not supposed to be advocates. When we speak as if we are, we blur boundaries.”

Berger was referring to the fact that judges are not supposed to comment on matters that they might have to consider in court. This is considered to be an ethical violation.

During her recent election, another socialist female NC Supreme Court Justice– Allison Riggs– committed a similar violation. She produced advertisements that told the public how she would rule on matters related to women’s “reproductive health”. That resulted in complaints to the state’s Judicial Standards Commission. That is the body that is supposed to discipline judges when they commit ethical violations.

Unfortunately, that Commission did not take action. It is just as corrupt as these female justices.

I suspect that, if the conservative justices had committed violations, it would be handled differently. Unfortunately, institutions within the legal community are horrendously biased toward the left.

Because the Judicial Standards Commission does not properly fulfill its function, unethical socialist judges like Anita Earls and Allison Riggs are emboldened to commit violations without fear of accountability.

  1. These two lady judges have got robe fever. What you have here are empty pant suits.

Berger Jr. said exactly the right thing. (-:
