There is a certain amount of shock value associated with a high school student being stabbed to death in the school setting. It is not something we see every day. There is no question that the family and friends of this young man are profoundly impacted.
On deeper reflection, however, what ought to be clear is that we ought not be surprised. Given the circumstances in which many of these young people are raised, it is a source of wonder that this does not happen more often.
One does not have to be close to this situation to feel a certain amount of grief over what happened.
Some cultures tolerate crime and violence more than others.
We see higher victim/death rates in those cultures.
This should not be a surprise.

Is it unusual for LE to withhold the name of the the student who murdered his fellow student? Surely they have him in custody.
I think it is unusual, Fred, and unjustified.
Another aspect of this mess is that video of the incident is circulating on social media. I can’t help but feel that placing cell phones in everyone’s hands has been a huge mistake.
