Dave Bossie is calling for a new Senate Majority Leader, and says Thune is not up to the task. He is probably right. For some reason, he gives Mike Johnson a pass.
Ordinarily, a new president must pass his legislative agenda within the first several months of taking office. If that does not happen, it is much less likely that he will ultimately get it passed.
The performance of this Republican Congress has been shameful:
I hate all the back biting and calumny that is going on in the GOP.
Yes, the redistricting fights are important to keeping the majority in the House . And this is grassroots politics. In order words, something that does not need the peanut gallery.
Johnson has held the majority together on key votes so I give him a scratch for that. He got the job by a majority vote. He got passed a bill to reopen the government and also shepherded the big beautiful bill to passage.
I think Bannon and Bossie are a tad too critical of Senate Majority leader Thune. We are seeing a lot of Trump’s judicial nominees get senate confirmation, The blue slip custom needs to be abolished. Look at the mischief the two Democrat Senators from Virginia did to the US Attorney job in the Eastern of Virginia. Same thing for New Jersey.
As to the sentiment to end the filibuster, there are strong arguments for and against. My opinion is keep it and do a work around.
I can’t help but feel that this should have gone better than it has, in spite of the Republicans’ narrow majorities. Of course, their majorities should have been greater, but that is another discussion.
