If the government or charities could make the homeless listen to that message it would be a great miracle. Some hard cases seem hopeless.
Fred, clearly some homeless cases are “fixable”, whereas others probably are not. We ought to institutionalize those that cannot make it in society.
A step in the right direction in thinking about this. Following it to a logical conclusion, you would respect them as adults and respect the suicidal choices they have made. But having said that, I have no respect for bums or inveterately begging to survive. I want nothing to do with them and don’t want to enable that choice with contributions towards it.
If one of them wants to change their life towards self-respect & working for a living, I’m all for helping that person.
There are risks associated with giving money directly to these folks, J. Sobran, as you know. It can be a moral error in a number of ways.
I support helping the needy, but some vetting needs to take place. And as I said, institutionalize in some way those who can’t manage life’s demands.
