Constitutional Amendment To Limit Property Tax Increases

Rep. Brian Echevrarria has a great article at Carolina Journal that talks about a proposal to limit property tax increases. Republicans are proposing a constitutional amendment.

Statewide, steep increases in property valuations have increased property taxes; and we likely face potentially severe future increases. Local units of government are exploiting the situation as a cash cow.

This is a great idea advanced by the Raleigh Republicans. The constitutional amendment likely would be passed by voters. I hope our state legislators move forward quickly with this initiative.

  1. There is a real problem there. Echevrarria’s bill might help a little. But I’m afraid local govts have become fiefdoms of a sort, with Uniparty decision-makers able to buy re-election with the scale of their distribution of the loot (while patting themselves on the back a do-gooders).

    1. J. Sobran, you describe the situation very accurately. The various units of local government are creatures of the state; and the state is supreme over them. The General Assembly can fix this problem if it elects to do so.
