NC citizens don’t even know who Michael Whatley is, at least as of yet. But a couple of polls show he is within shooting distance of Roy Cooper.
Most importantly, neither poll shows Cooper exceeding 50 percent. This is significant because he is the quasi-incumbent in this race. When incumbents poll less than 50 percent, that shows they are vulnerable.
The race is still more than a year away. We all need to learn where Whatley stands on the issues.
I would like to see DJT and Laura Trump campaigning with Whatley.
There are two other candidates in the GOP primary at least, Fred, but it will be difficult for them to overcome Trump’s endorsement of Whatley and also the support of the state and national GOP establishment. I suspect they are to the right of Whatley but we really know little about him.
