Guilford Property Taxes: Opposition Emerging?

The entire county is now concerned about property tax revaluations.

Pat Tillman– one of the county commissioners– says he has as many as four votes in support of a revenue-neutral property tax rate. There are currently only two Republicans on the nine-member board. That means as many as two Democrats are joining him at this point.

In addition, Walter Johnson III, a black Democrat, is running in a primary for one of these seats. He has an economic background; and says he feels he can REDUCE property taxes– not raise them.

It appears some of the local Democratic socialists are rethinking things or otherwise feeling the heat. It would require three of them to repudiate Skip Alston’s plans for another tax increase. And it would be a repudiation. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Addendum: It turns out that Walter Johnson is the son of the late Yvonne Johnson. Decades ago, he worked for the corrupt Project Homestead. He speaks about how government needs more revenue. I will leave it to readers as to whether they believe his representations that he wants to reduce property taxes.
