Billie Eilish And Elon University

An entertainer I had never heard of– Billie Eilish– made a splash at the Grammies by defending illegals against ICE because the United States represents “stolen land”. The Native American tribe that used to “own” the land where her lavish estate sits then responded:

Of course, there is no indication she is returning her property to the Native Americans.

I attended a performance at Elon University within the last year. At the very beginning of the performance, when introductory remarks were made, a piped-in voice stated an acknowledgment that the university itself sits on land that was taken from Native Americans. The progressive/socialist crowd at Elon forced this gratuitous ideological messaging on attendees.

Of course, Elon did not offer to return its properties to the Native Americans.

As I sat there, I began to consider that my own people did not come to the United States until the period from 1890-1920. My people had no part in what happened. But the foolish people who run Elon felt it was necessary to create an atmosphere of guilt even though they had no intention of making restitution to the Native Americans, and even though nobody present was at fault.

We can debate the issues of exploration and colonization and conquest and the blessings of Western Civilization at another time. But these people are extremely tiresome.

  1. And where did the last tribe to live there get the land?
They forcibly moved the previous tribe off and took it.
And the previous tribe forcibly moved the previous tribe off and took it.
And the previous tribe forcibly moved the previous tribe off and took it.

    Ad infinitum.

American Indian groups had no concept of “private property” or land ownership.

Settlers “conquered” the land; they didn’t steal it. It was simply the continuation of a social/cultural system that was tens of thousands of years old.

(I don’t use the terms Native or Indigenous. Both mean “originated here” and man did not originate here. The first human to set foot on what we now call North America was merely the first foreign visitor.)

    1. Well said, JayCee! All borders of countries today came about through that process.

But additionally, it is more complicated than that: There were only about 5 million in N. America in 1492, and many of them were killed off by disease, so there was an awful lot of empty space. Furthermore, white settlers very much paid for a lot of the land, in the east as individuals and then later in the west as a govt as part of treaties.

It is a big subject about which much more can be said. But when ever we face that “stolen land” crap, we should call it out for the bovine scatology that it is.

  2. “But the foolish people who run Elon felt it was necessary to create an atmosphere of guilt…” That’s the point. The ruling class wants to destroy Western Civilization from within.

This should not be allowed to stand. The US wasn’t stolen anymore than any other country in the world was.

    1. Absolutely, J. Sobran. The leadership of Elon is truly contemptible– not only for this particular incident, but for its overall worldview and approach.

And I agree with respect to the country being “stolen”. Here in North Carolina, and probably throughout the country, you have people of “American Indian” ancestry living and working and functioning and enjoying the country’s blessings alongside the rest of us.
