It was almost like clockwork. It was just over one week since the election when Greensboro residents elected a large Marxist contingent to the City Council.
Police Chief John Thompson has submitted his resignation citing family considerations. He has kids in middle school. He is not nearly of retirement age; but of course, police officers can retire early.
Can anyone blame him for retiring? It is the logical thing to do. He would be even more constrained than he already has been.
And thus it begins.
That is a shocker but I can’t say that I blame him with a City Council and Mayor that wouldn’t let him do the job. I suspect there will be no surprises about the credentials of the individual who is chosen to replace Chief Thompson. We will see.
Greensboro is at an extraordinary level of risk, Fred, in terms of its future. Unfortunately, as we have pointed out previously, demographics can be destiny. We have a majority-minority city.
