A few items caught my eye recently:
- Greensboro’s city attorney is generously compensated. But the attorney who recently had to resign– Chuck Watts– maintained a private law practice on the side and used the city’s facilities for private legal work. Watts is a black man. There are claims that he compensated the city; but I doubt he paid what he would ordinarily have had to pay for office overhead and all that entails. Now, the city is being sued over that private legal work. The matter was the subject of a prosecutorial investigation.
- The state recently fined the city for carbon monoxide emissions at its sewage treatment plant. Municipalities are often the biggest violators of environmental regulations.
- City council member-at-large Hugh Holston was the subject of a recent article by George Hartzman. He apparently draws income as an employee of the Greensboro Housing Coalition; but the organization has contracts with the city of Greensboro. That is a no-no for city council members.
Some things never change.
Yup ! No way to run a railroad much less a municipal government.
Greensboro needs a good house cleaning but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
We have elections this year. Will likely get more of the same, Fred.
