NC Foreign Doctors Act Prompted By Political Donations

We had reported here within the last couple of weeks about the fact that the NC General Assembly passed a bill opening the floodgates to allow more foreign doctors to practice in rural areas.

Now, there are a couple of posts that seek to explain why this happened.

NC Political Tea reports that Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC just bought a large chain of urgent care clinics with a major presence in the Triad– FastMed. That insurance company is a major donor to state legislators. One key legislator that had sponsored this bill had claimed that “clinics” in rural areas had been crying out for more foreign doctors.

In addition, the Daily Haymaker reports that state legislators held a fundraiser with a group promoting Indian-American interests just prior to the passage of this bill.

There is little doubt that political donations explained the crafting and passage of this bill.
