Guilford Property Taxes To Rise 48% Unless Commissioners Act

The Rhino Times reports that the Guilford Tax Department is now projecting that property values in the county will be (average) 48% higher than the last time properties were revalued.

That means property taxes will rise around 50 percent– plus or minus– for homeowners unless the county commissioners (and the council members in the various towns and cities) do not adjust rates downward. For many citizens, that would be a devastating increase.

Can we trust our local political leaders to do the right thing? There is a compelling need for citizens to be initiating conversations with them.

    1. Yes, they were warned, and yet they persist in their voting patterns. We have previously mentioned the nefarious effect of out-of-town college voters casting their votes here (UNCG, A&T). There needs to be a lot of pressure on the county commissioners and our various city and town councils.

  1. It’s no better in Forsyth Co. with its Uniparty Commissioners. My property tax bill just came and was 25% higher than the previous year. 25%!

The Forsyth School system goes millions in the red, feeding people during the summer when school is out even. Heaven forbid that parents should have to feed the children lunch. Personal responsibility is racist or something I suppose.

    1. The entire mindset is disordered, J. Sobran. The welfare state is so deeply entrenched that they have served meals in schools during summer break.

I saw that Forsyth County Schools went to the state asking for more money to help with their deficit, and thankfully, the Republicans in Raleigh declined.
