This is a great debate that explores the liberal bias in media and academia, circa 1966. David Susskind was a Jewish progressive/ socialist who had a television talk show. William F. Buckley, Jr.– an Irish Catholic– was the leader of the nation’s conservative movement and had his own show on PBS. Both men are deceased.
Remain mindful that both of these men were focused on the prevailing philosophy in that part of the country that lies between Washington, D.C. and Boston. The rest of the country is not discussed or considered nearly as much.
But this is a great discussion that demonstrates how little things have changed, at least in some respects: (HT: Fred)
What a splendid memory.
The verbal jousting was fun to watch, Fred. Thanks for sharing it.
We both have long known of Buckley. In my case, I recall as a young person seeing the TV listings for Susskind’s program, but was otherwise unfamiliar with him. He comes across as very arrogant and condescending. He, in fact, typifies the elitist mindset.
