Significant Drop In Percentage Attending Traditional Public Schools in North Carolina

A recent article demonstrates that the percentage of students attending traditional public schools in North Carolina dropped from 86.5% in 2010 to 74.9% in 2025. That is a drop of nearly 12 percent over 15 years. (HT: JH)

We had discussed this recently in the context of all the bond spending and proposals for new public schools in Guilford County. It would be good to know what the drop has been in our county; but it must be considerable given the number of charter schools that have materialized and all the new homeschoolers.

I hope there will be a vigorous public discussion about school bond funding in Guilford County. Suggesting this is needed is an outright charade.

  1. The School Board and the GCS administration are trying to pull a fast one,

The average spending per student in Guilford County is approximately $9,000 annually. This figure includes funding from local, state, and federal sources. Yet the county Commissioners want another wasteful school bond.

Can we draw any conclusions from these figures.?
