Ah, New York…

I was a Mets fan growing up in the New York City metro area. Although I moved on to the Braves as an adult, one still feels the heart strings pulling a bit to the boyhood favorite.

But then an episode occurred a couple of weeks ago. In celebration of Pride Month at Citi Field a couple of weeks ago, an image popped up on the Jumbotron scoreboard:

They rubbed the noses of Mets fans and players in the Trans flag.

Since then, the Mets have lost ten of their last eleven games. They had a really good team this year; and were at the top of their division. But now, the fall has been precipitous.

The owner of the Mets is Steve Cohen– a Jewish hedge fund manager.

But then there is the mayoral election.

I had posted about Zohan Mamdani a couple of weeks ago. He is an Indian Muslim socialist who won the Democratic primary for mayor last night (pending the outcome of ranked choice calculations).

He is not apparently a devout, orthodox Muslim. He is pro-LGBT, after all.

But he has favored prohibited landlords from raising rents; the city owning and operating grocery stores; free buses; and free child care.

How did this happen? Some attributed this to the “multicultural” voting population. But I have seen one analysis that suggested young, white voters turned the election toward Mamdani. (Could these have been young Jewish voters?)

He faces Mayor Eric Adams– running as an independent– and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the general election. Adams and Sliwa will split the anti-Mamdani vote.

It appears at this point that Mamdani will win. If that happens, New York is doomed. He will make former Mayor Bill DeBlasio look like a right-winger by comparison.

  1. There is a campaign on X saying “NC is closed’ just for that reason. But I sure am glad TC came south to spread the word through his blog!

    1. Yes, I had seen that also on X, TCfan. I suspect we will get some of them. I hope they do not bring NYC ideologies with them. What a mess!

I think some of the big names like Clay and Buck were promoting TN, FL and TX because of the fact there is no state income tax in those states.
