The Governor’s School here in North Carolina used to be fairly prestigious. It was considered to be a privilege for students selected to attend there. But it requires boarding in the Triangle metro area.
A teacher at that special public school– Dr. David Phillips– was recently fired because he had criticized and opposed the teaching of critical theory.
This is in spite of Republicans occupying the office of state superintendent of education, and serving on the state board of education.
We need more legal groups like ADF willing to assert and defend the Christian/ conservative/ constitutional point of view in the courts.
But at this point, parents would be CRAZY to allow their kids to board to attend the Governor’s School. I seem to vaguely recall stories in the past highlighting insufficient supervision of the students there. But, just as in the case of the entire public education system, parents are taking an unacceptable risk if they allow their kids to attend– especially if they have other options that are more suitable.
I have sent your post to FIRE and Campus Reform advising them of this situation.
Thanks, Fred.
