Those who have read my blogs for many years might recall that I have been critical of state representative Pricey Harrison in the past. She is part of one of Greensboro's "old money" families; and is part of the political left. She is pro-abortion and pro-socialized medicine.

But the NC Family Policy Council is reporting that she was one of those representatives who fought against a sports gambling bill and helped prevent it from passing. It was apparently a bipartisan group of some Republicans and some Democrats that helped shoot it down.

Unfortunately, the GOP leadership in Raleigh has adopted the posture of promoting more freedom for those who would sell and market alcoholic beverages of various types, and also promoting various types of gambling. Both stances are very unwise.

Pricey deserves our thanks for getting this one right.

Southern Baptist Convention Leaders Who Opposed Trump Voters

The following are excerpts from a story released by the Conservative Baptist Network. In the wake of President Trump's judicial nominees overturning Roe v. Wade, the group highlights some of the national Southern Baptist Convention leaders who had opposed Trump and his voters:

Millions of Christians heard from then-candidate Trump a plainspoken promise to do something for which they had been praying for decades. Daring to believe it might be possible to reverse the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision—a decision responsible for more than 63 million deaths—82 percent of born-again Christians voted for Trump, according to exit polls conducted by Edison Research.

“What millions of Southern Baptists heard from their ERLC president, though, was an outpouring of disdain for Donald Trump,” Louisiana pastor Brad Jurkovich wrote in a first-person article for the Conservative Baptist Network June 25. “Dr. Moore consistently showed a condescending attitude toward anyone who claimed to follow Jesus and who supported Donald Trump—the one presidential candidate who clearly had the conviction to see Roe v. Wade overturned. 

“Many Southern Baptists, like myself, were left wondering why they were employing someone like Dr. Moore who openly questioned their Christian witness for simply supporting a presidential candidate who promised to nominate pro-life judges to our nation’s highest court.”

Though Moore issued an apology for some of his remarks, he continued to publicly oppose Trump throughout his tenure as president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC). As recently as the 2022 SBC Annual Meeting, other Southern Baptist leaders have continued to follow suit in speaking derogatorily of those who voted for Trump. Family Church campus pastor Kevin Smith, who serves as the vice chairman of the board of trustees for the ERLC, can be seen in a video recording making comments during an SBC 2022 9Marks event that were later described by Louisiana pastor and Conservative Baptist Network steering council member Corey Smith as “crude and unbecoming of a Christian, let alone a pastor.”

Despite opposition from inside and outside the Southern Baptist family, Georgia pastor and steering council member Mike Stone expressed gratitude for the Court’s historic decision and fortitude to continue standing for life as the battle now returns to the states.

“Today is a day for which pro-lifers have prayed, worked, and voted for years. We have prayed in our churches and homes,” Stone said of the June 24 Court victory. “We’ve worked in our communities and pregnancy centers. And we have lobbied and voted our convictions on what we see as the most pressing moral issue of our time. 

“Although many crude and condescending comments have been made about pro-life voters, the overturning of Roe and Casey show why many true conservatives held their noses without bending over in the least,” Stone said in apparent reference to Kevin Smith’s comments at the recent 9Marks event. “The work is incomplete, and it now continues state by state, heart by heart, and life by life. But this is a glorious day of celebration"...

Conservative Baptist Network Press reached out to Moore and 9Marks leaders Mark Dever and Jonathan Leeman to offer their perspective on the role the 2016 presidential election played in last week’s overturning of Roe and Casey and whether Christians were right to have voted for then-candidate Donald Trump considering the Court victory, but no response was received by the time of publication.

Is It Time to Complain?

The last couple of weeks have brought a new low. The Covid vaccines were approved for children, the corrupt media trumpeted the news, and now we have pediatricians in North Carolina eager to give the vaccine to healthy kids.

This is a tremendous breach of medical ethics in numerous ways. It is doing a disservice to patients who happen to be kids; and it is placing them at unnecessary risk.

Through all the outrages we have experienced since the onset of the Covid pandemic, there has been little accountability for the perpetrators of all the excessive, tyrannical, unjustifiable moves taken that hurt people in various ways. There is a growing awareness within the medical freedom movement that we need accountability.

I am now hearing calls for patients to issue complaints. The rationale? It is felt that the various licensing boards need to hear from patients when they have been injured by the vaccines and were not properly advised of the risks. These boards need to be aware that patients are getting hurt unnecessarily and that proper standards for informed consent are not being met. They need to be forced to investigate these situations and take action.

Let's take one potential example.

A patient receives the Covid-19 vaccine. He or she was not offered a legitimate informed consent process during which the risks were fully explained. That patient then experiences a reaction that is permanently disabling or that even results in death. What is the recourse?

The patient (or survivors) can file a complaint. If a physician directed the administration of the vaccine, the complaint would go to the medical board. If a pharmacist directed the administration of the vaccine, the complaint would go to the pharmacy board. There will nearly always be a licensed physician or a pharmacist who is ultimately directing the administration of the vaccine, even if that person is not physically present. 

It would be absolutely tragic to see kids die or become permanently disabled because of these vaccines. In fact, in North Carolina, some older kids have already been rendered permanently disabled.

And yes, there is exasperation among some medical professionals that nothing is being done to bring things back into balance and to introduce accountability.

One measured voice-- Dr. Ryan Cole, who has spoken eloquently about Covid-related issues-- is now calling for lawsuits against physicians who are doing the wrong thing and hurting people in the process. That is quite a threshold to pass, but given what we have been seeing, it is understandable:
