Some news items of interest to conservatives never get picked up by the corrupt mainstream media. But this item was different.
State Treasurer Dale Folwell's press conference this week highlighted the obscene amounts of monies the hospital systems received from the federal government over the last couple of years in the form of Covid relief and special Medicare payments.
One problem? Many of these hospital systems occupy a position of privilege; but they are not doing what they are supposed to be doing in terms of charity care. Many North Carolina families are impoverished because of hospital-related debt and stratospheric hospital charges. The hospital systems "go after" a person's assets when money is owed.
Folwell referred to these hospital systems as "cartels". He states that they made record profits during the pandemic. His report is found here.
The Carolina Journal provides further information.
They got all this money even though some of them fanned the flames of fear and panic in response to the pandemic; and even though they advocated before governmental bodies and officials for lockdowns and other coercive measures.
They got these monies even though they denied patients appropriate early treatment for Covid-19 and also appropriate hospital treatment. They employ numerous physicians; and effectively abandoned patients by refusing to offer them the care they needed. They did these things to cash in on certain federal payments for Covid care and to avoid antagonizing their federal masters.
They got these monies even though they restricted the manner in which their employed physicians could treat their patients.
They got these monies even though they forced their employees to take the vaccine-- still regarded as experimental-- in order to cash in on other federal incentive monies. This included the numerous young fertile females employed by hospital systems.
They got these monies even though they failed to provide the public with a legitimate informed consent for the Covid vaccines; and even though they quickly jumped aboard vaccinating populations that were not especially at high risk of Covid complications-- such as healthy young adults and kids.
Hospitals were depicted as heroic during the early days of the pandemic. But the true story is much more complicated. Dale Folwell deserves considerable credit for justifiably taking on these leviathans. He is precisely right to be intensely suspicious of what these hospital systems are doing. Looking at executive salaries within these systems would be very enlightening; but perhaps we ought to be looking also at how much board members are being compensated, if at all.

Yes, there will be justice in the long run. Unfortunately, the structures for accountability on this earth are not working very well for these hospital systems.
