The report that North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is considering vaccine passports is quite characteristic of the asinine leadership he has provided regarding COVID-19 since the very outset.
Let's get to the nitty gritty. Cooper's designs are a pretext for discrimination. They set us up for systemic inequality. Those receiving vaccines are the favored class, and would enjoy certain benefits. The despised, unwashed, unvaccinated masses are the disavowed, the forgotten, the abandoned.
He would create a license to commit overt acts of discrimination against this unvaccinated class. They would not have access to certain facilities and privileges and experiences. They would be "less equal" than others.
Interestingly, American anti-discrimination law places great emphasis on "public accommodations". That is, public facilities and businesses are not permitted to deny admission or service on the basis of certain characteristics such as race.
But under the vaccine passport concept, businesses regarded as "public accommodations" are permitted to discriminate. And once we approach herd immunity-- which should be fairly soon-- there would be no rational basis for this type of discrimination.
Is it not ironic that the socialists' highest statewide elected official-- Roy Cooper-- seems to be coming out in favor of discrimination and inequality? Even Naomi Wolf -- one of their own-- is justifiably coming out against the vaccine passports.
