I had posted here Thursday about the fact that Skip Alston asked the governor to allocate 15,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to teachers and other staff within the Guilford County Schools system. Later that night, WFMY reported that-- magically-- the county Health Department is going to be vaccinating schools personnel-- at least 10,000 over a period of two weeks. It will all begin on Thursday.
But wait a minute. There are still many elderly and medically vulnerable within Guilford County who have not yet received the vaccine. They have been trying but it has not been available to them. Many have had to postpone their second dose. And yet, we have thousands of doses made available for school system employees.
Cooper and Cohen set up an elaborate framework to determine the levels of priority for who will get the vaccine and when. If there is a deviation from this plan, is it unreasonable to assume they gave the green light for this change?
It is truly outrageous that politics is determining which groups are granted priority for receiving the vaccine.
But with many public school students returning to the classroom, the socialists who run the system feel they must control things. Therefore, they are imposing a very high level of regimentation on the students, including limiting interactions with friends, changing how lunch is taken, and the like. After all, they can't be allowed to "spread the virus".
It will be interesting to see how they will maintain discipline on these matters, especially in those schools that have high levels of minorities. Let's remember that much of our school board politically opposes school discipline, and ran for office on that platform. Are they now going to find suddenly that, at least on some matters, discipline is actually necessary?
Otherwise, it is not clear how they will get the students to comply with their regimentation. Is it all a pretense-- a show-- or are they really going to enforce it?
In the meantime, they will be jabbing away at school system staff to get them vaccinated while those who truly need it will have to wait. And some of them will inevitably die.
