Just found a neat video that provides a glimpse into the sights and images I had seen growing up around the town of New Dorp on Staten Island.
It shows, among other things, my old high school; the street where both sets of my grandparents lived; the movie theater where I attended Saturday matinees; the mausoleum where Cornelius Vanderbilt's remains were kept, and where kids used to "hang out" regularly; the commercial areas and establishments where personal errands were run; the train station; the tree-lined streets; and the beach, including the old beach bungalows that were prevalent at that time. Some areas now appear the same; whereas others are dramatically different than they used to be.
Piece of trivia: Donald Trump, during summer vacations when he was in college, helped manage an apartment complex near my old high school that his father owned. He was in the area regularly during those summers.
Memory gradually fades with time; and the images of how things used to appear tend to erode in our minds. But this video restored some of that memory:
TC: I found something similar about my home town .

Wow, Fred, that is pretty comprehensive! It is always a good thing to take a step back to a time that was... better.
