How High-Speed Car Chases Became a Citywide Pastime in Los Angeles

When the deputy attempted to stop a vehicle that had been reported as stolen, the driver of that vehicle fled at high speed.

It is EXTREMELY likely that the driver would have CONTINUED at high speed southbound on Battleground Avenue REGARDLESS of what the deputy did in response.

What would the self-appointed "expert" critics have a law enforcement officer do under these circumstances?

Great point, Bob. In addition, I think it is entirely possible we only know a portion of what the deputy sheriff knew when he initiated the chase. There is probably a whole lot more about this criminal, and the circumstances of the car theft (and the incident itself), that have not been reported.
