Twice within the last couple of days, I have seen or heard from Raleigh Republican sources their explanatory narrative for the entire HB 2 episode.
It is their contention that the Charlotte City Council instigated its move for transgender rights in order to give Democrats a juicy issue in North Carolina for the presidential election. Apparently, the theory is that those on the left knew the Republicans in Raleigh would respond to any new ordinance passed in Charlotte; and this would be a huge motivator for the democratic socialist base to turn out for Hillary.
It's hard to prove this narrative is true; but it certainly is credible.
Now we learn that some Republicans in Raleigh, including our illustrious governor, are trying to water down HB 2. This is despite the fact that the general public is overall behind what they have done.
We are witnessing some "squishes in evolution". I certainly hope the Senate holds the line. The best legislative leaders can do is adjourn their session as soon as possible, because the longer they remain in Raleigh, the more damage they will do. The party's conservative base-- and women statewide-- will rightfully feel abandoned if legislators water down the new law to the extent that it is toothless. These legislative leaders and Governor McCrory instead ought to tell the NBA commissioner to take a walk.
The other side-- the dark side-- is doing everything they can to wreck our culture, our state and our nation. We need to be fighting them, and resisting them.
McCrory and Moore: Grow a spine once again, and fight for your people.
