Governor Pat McCrory recently challenged state Attorney General Roy Cooper to join a legal battle in opposition to the Obama Administration on the matter of transgender students' use of locker rooms and rest rooms in public schools. One of Obama's latest displays of cultural Marxism has been to force local school districts to allow transgender students to use the rest room or locker room consistent with their "gender identity".
Cooper refused to join the suit; and then McCrory decided to join it himself.
Within the last month, the governor took a high profile stance in opposition to sanctuary cities in North Carolina; and also called upon the Obama Adminstration to refrain from locating Syrian refugees in the state of North Carolina.
These were all exceedingly appropriate political positions for McCrory to take. However, these moves contrast strongly with the moderate-to-liberal profile he had adopted on social and cultural issues during the first 2.75 years of his service as governor.
Of course, McCrory has also been a big government Republican. He does not even try to represent himself as a limited government conservative.
All of a sudden, North Carolina residents are now being led to believe that McCrory is a conservative. We really need to wonder what motivated his recently stated positions. Could it be the tough race for re-election he will soon be facing?
Some conservatives statewide are likely quite pleased with McCrory's rapid metamorphosis. But many of us need to question what will happen in the event he is re-elected. Will he merely revert back to form?
After all, we have seen McCrory during his first few years in Raleigh.
Leopards are usually unable to change their spots permanently. That is not part of their skill set. However, they are quite capable of employing camouflage at least temporarily.
Interestingly, McCrory's buddy-- Richard Burr-- has been doing similar things. All of a sudden, Burr is making some conservative votes. He is up for re-election next year also.
McCrory will likely have to participate in one or more debates against Cooper during the upcoming election season. It seems the primary task of the debate moderators might be to ask for the real Pat McCrory to please stand up.
